The end of hurican Katie
Watching the tail end of hurricane Katie heading our way had me full of hope. We haven't had destruction level winds hit our shores in years and this time the tide at Southend was going to be working in our favour.
When Katie finally hit she came in hard, it took twice as long to battle out the mile long walk out to the Ray while Katie tried to rip our kit from our grasp.
Once out those dreams of record speeds soon fell by the wayside, sure we had the power but the wind was so strong it had pushed the water out of the river leaving nothing but a bumpy mess.
The hours ticked by before the tide started to win the battle and the river started to flood again. Unfortunately we had to wait so long to get sailable conditions that Ketie was starting to weaken.
I managed a few short runs before she gave up her powers, though she left me with a personal peak of 49:98 knots even if the 500m speed wasn't so good.
