“Whitey, you coming down, looks like Kimmeridge is on” When will I ever learn, Timo has no concept of time when it comes to driving, just to get near the beach at the same time it would call for a pre 6am start. The next call to Shaun and Chippy Dave didn’t get such an enthusiastic reception; they believed in a good forecast for home. My forecast was they just wanted stay in bed.
About an hour out of Pool Timo called, “Skyboy’s home and it looks better at Overcombe, oh well just another forty minutes behind the wheel but at least the boys will be able to check it out before I get there, but then that’s the phone again. “forget it, Ringstead, it on”, how did I keep up with Timo before GPS, just drove more miles I guess, at least now it gives me the short cuts you wouldn’t know about without being local.
My last experience of Ringstead was during the boat show two years ago, shot down with Skyboy for a sail before the evening session. I ended up swimming more than sailing when the wind died suddenly, so I wasn’t pissed when I turned up, saw the conditions didn’t look and Timo’s first words were “Kimmeridge!”
After an eventful trip we finally turned up at the beach, I was first out, apart from having everything rigged in the van, Skyboy had just picked up all his new kit since changing to Naish and so was figuring everything out, as for Timo, he was contemplating the last five minutes of our journey…
I hadn’t been out for more than half an hour and the wind kicked in fully, not often I’m the test dummy but I still managed to make it out on a second sail as everyone came out. All things happen for a reason, coming in I found James from H2O stood on the beach with nothing else to do apart from nurse a recovering foot. “Good to see you James, fancy playing with the camera”.
Timo was launching into massive backies, fortunately James got the only shot of the one he bailed out of. John was putting more into riding; he’s off on Thursday for the start of the world tour and wanted to try out his light wind riding board. Not that it didn’t stop him landing a forward with enough speed to stop me catching him up.
I thought I’d improved over the last few weeks, but sailing in waves with these boys wasn’t good for the ego, on the other hand it does give the motivation to try a little bit harder.
Guy Cribb and Steve Thorp turned up just in time for see the wind drop, as they floated away from the shore Timo had yet another beach in mind, not that it had any more to offer when we arrived. At least it brought the average driving time down to two hours per beach visit.
