Real Wind
Real Wind

Last year we were all getting blasted but the fans at London’s International Boat Show, while I’ll miss the week, the weather has more than made up for the lack of indoor windsurfing. Unseasonable temperatures and great winds are more than making up for the lack of indoor action. We’ve sailed more days than not, and those I didn’t were spent at the show helping out ClubVass and Topper.
I’ve been sailing out of Point Clear since I started windsurfing so was real surprised to find a new spot we’ve never used, and best of all its better that the other spots. We headed out towards Kent for about a mile where a sand bar turns our Essex chop into something resembling small waves, not big enough to ride but great for jumping.
The next three days were at the show, putting up a stand and rigging a bit of kit to make sure we had some windsurfing. The pix of the boats are from the Topper Stand, my brother makes all the boats here in Brighlingsea and he wanted a few pix and video from the show, Adrian Frierson put our Hustlers Convention Video together so was the perfect choice to help, he’s puts footage together with feeling so he should be able to keep the Topper guys more happy.
The best day of my week has to be Sunday, took the boys down to Worthing and hooked up with Harty for a bit of fun. Dave may have improved a lot over the year but still struggled to get his fin clear of the water, I figured a bit of sailing on the South Coast would soon give him his first flight.
At first he pushed upwind as each wave passed and any air was followed by a little swim, I sailed behind him for a few runs, as soon as he pointed his board off the wind there was an air of control to his flight path. Got a feeling Dave will be calling for another South Coast road trip soon.
Haven’t sailed with Harty for a while so it was good to get out together, took a bit of time out to get a few snaps for his next article in Windsurf but looking at this weeks forecast I think this won’t be the only sailing we get done this week.
