Pool Windfest and the penultimate round of British SuperBikes clashed this weekend, but the weather made my decision for me. With all but no wind forecast I headed up north to Silverstone and a sea of bikes, but it turned out to be just the start of my journey. After Ducati’s hospitality at Caldwell I printed out a poster as way of thanks, but when I got trackside and saw Airwaves Ducati’s new black livery I had to return home and print out a shot from the day.
At least it was easier to get the shots, after the ducking and diving between heads at Cadwell, MSS Discovery Racing organised a media pass for the weekend. It seamed strange to being able to cross the track between sessions after running round the fencing. But instead of walking less, it just opened more places to go.
After a life time on the worlds biggest car park, the M25 I made it back in time to sort through the pix, print out a couple of posters and grab a few hours sleep before heading back just in time for a cuppa with an old windsurfing mate. I used to windsurf with Mark Singleton years ago, but I guess most guys would remember him as a photographer, and a huge one at that. Yes, Mark dwarfs me but several inches in height, width, and thankfully weight, he retired his camera and windsurfing some time ago and went into engineering. He runs a team in the Super sport 600, sponsored by Buff they have had mixed fortunes since there main rider was put out of the running when he crashed earlier this year.
I made the big mistake heading down for the Windfest party, sure it was great, a little too great when you’re got to look forward to a 5am drive. With no action on the water Timo put on a pre party, but it was the after party that encouraged me get behind the wheel at 4am with the hope of snatching an hours sleep on the way
Ducati occupied the sharp end of the grid, but it was Ryuich Kiyornari that got away form the lights first, series leader Liam Haslam took back the lead setting an incredibly fast pace that ultimately saw his race end prematurely in the gravel. By the end of play the leader board saw team mate Gregorio Lavilla just one point ahead of Kiyornari while Haslam dropped to third.
It was a great weekend, but with the final at Brands just a couple of weeks away I’ve already book my weekend to see who’s going to become the SuperBikes champion. below is a small gallery of pictures, you can find the superbike foto of the bike you follow just click on one of these links, Airwaves, MSS Discover Racing, Honda, Yamaha, Suzuki, Ducati, Kawasaki, Superbike, Supersport, or use the pix search above. Plus there are few from the Army's Red Devels who dropped in for the day
