Ray of light
Ray of light in Dahab
I’ve joined Ray and Molly Page on many of their excursions to Egypt. We normally see a group of around thirty covering every ability. Dahab offers the perfect location for windsurfing of all levels.
Inside the bay is perfect for those new to windsurfing, or encouraged in the knowledge that should land be needed its always close at hand. Upwind the bay offers flat and sheltered conditions to launch into. As you stray further from the centre the winds become cleaner and stronger. At the busiest times of the day the water can get a little choppy, which only serves to improve your technique.
Sailing outside the bay on the other side of the spit has to be the easiest stretch of water now to man for windsurfing. The turquoise blue water and constant winds make this area perfect for perfecting your gybes or increasing your speed. Being so much larger than the bay, you seldom feel crowded and have plenty of room to play.
Sailing through the channel in the reef puts you into the wave area. More swells than dumping waves, but big enough to get you used to being in the air without the worry of being washed in the white water.
Within our group we had all areas covered, so Peter Hart and myself tended to move from one to another so we got to sail with everyone. With so much such area to pay with it would it would have been a crime no to spend some time with the camera and get so pix for Pete’s next technique articles in Windsurf Mag.
By the end of the week most were looking forward to a rest from the wind, in my book that’s a sign a fantastic week.
Thanks Ray, a great time had by all
