Going Loopy
31/07/2006
Still being locked to the land and away from windsurfing is starting to drive me loopy, so it seamed an ideal time to join Peter Hart on his home beach, West Wittering Windsurfing Club were he was to make a few more people loopy. To be fair, he really was trying to help as he encouraged them into trying their first ever-forward loop.
I arrived to find the group going through the motions on land, it was all hands to the deck as everyone took turns in a simulated forward, this really is a case of lighter the easier, particularly for those doing the carrying. But with theory and simulation over it was time to test the nerves and head for the water.
The forecast looked good for 20kt side shore in the afternoon, though it showed promise, the wind stayed onshore, but at least there was enough to get planning with a few small ramps. Everyone was keen to give it a go, and those that managed to break the fear barrier came to the beach with a smile.
While no one went right round, it was mainly down to conditions, I sure the next time they venture out and find themselves heading towards a wave in side shore conditions, that back hands going to get a good pull and they really will go loopy
