Faster
The week started at Acrobat Television in Manchester, where I joined Peter Hart in putting the final touches to our latest DVD Faster. It started at last year’s speed slalom in Sotovento, where we enlisted every windsurfing record holder to create the definitive guide to speed. The filming was hilarious, which continued this week in the voice over booth, in true Harty fashion he’s already planed his stitch-up.
Much to his amusement Pete edited shots of me to a song he’d re-written, needles to say I’m in no rush to put that clip on the web. Not to worry I’m sure I’ll find a way to even the score sooner or later.
Bjorn Dunkerbeck, Finian Maynard, Antoine Albeau, and Karin Jaggi brought their speed knowledge to the camera, but its no problem if you can’t lay your hands on the latest dedicated speed board. Pete and I put everyday freeride equipment through its paces and found it to be the weapon of choice for getting comfortable at speed.
We found some archive video from West Kirby when I first put the production board record into the 40kt club. The wind was howling and when you see 66 knots pop onto the screen you’ll know why this has to be the windiest speed event ever. If only we know then what we know now, maybe Yellow Pages would have never made it to the water, and I’m sure some of the guys would have been quicker with less crashes on modern free ride equipment.
One thing that hasn’t changed over the years, it looks like Harty and I had plenty to talk about back then, and the banter on and off the water hasn’t stopped since.
